How to choose dining chairs: height, upholstery and cleaning

The short answer: the chair seat should sit 28 to 31 cm below the table top. With a 75 or 76 cm table, look for a seat of 45 to 47 cm. Then choose the upholstery according to use: fabric that wipes clean with a cloth for every day, rattan cane for a light, airy chair.

Height, in numbers

The Livia Dining Table is 76 cm high and the Aria Dining Table is 75 cm. Subtracting each chair's seat height gives the legroom.

Upholstery or cane

The polyester upholstery of the Gala Chair meets the EN 16139:2013 standard for heavy-duty use and is cared for with a damp cloth and mild soap. The rattan cane of the Los Angeles and Berlin chairs lets air through and is light, but it needs care: vacuum it with a soft brush and avoid continuous direct sun, which dries out the rattan.

An example

With the 180 × 90 cm Livia table and 6 diners, the Gala chairs with armrests (55 to 70 cm high from the floor) must be able to slide under the top. With a 76 cm table, there is plenty of margin. With armchairs, allow 65 cm per diner, as we explain in the table size guide.

Limits

The figures come from the technical sheets of our pieces. The 28 to 31 cm range is a common rule of thumb, not a standard: if you are very tall or very short, try the chair seated. Also check that the armrests pass under the table top.
