What to give for a housewarming: ideas by budget

Manta Aveline de chenilla en beige con flecos

The short answer: for a housewarming, give something that gets used or used up and that does not force anyone to move a single piece of furniture: glasses, candles, a throw or a cushion. There are options from €9.90, and the ones that land best are neutral (beige, sand, ivory) and made of natural materials. Gifts that take up wall space or need a socket, such as a painting or a lamp, are best kept for people you know well.

Two combinations that add up without overdoing it: a pair of glasses (Blush and Jamaica) for €25.80, or the two candle holders, Marfil and Terra, for €85. If you want to step up a level, the Aveline Throw and the Noor Cushion together come to €116.

Give a layer, not an obligation

The best housewarming gift is one the host can leave on the sofa or on the table the same day. The interior designer Zaida Muñoz, creative director of Zach & Decor, defended this idea of a layered home in Nuevo Estilo (7 October 2025): “cushions, upholstery or wallpapers that can be renewed over time without having to redo the whole home”. A candle, a glass or a throw are exactly that: layers that add without asking anything to change place.

A painting or a lamp needs a wall, a socket and a place planned for it. The Bellora Lamp, for example, is 76 cm tall and sits on a console, a sideboard or a roomy bedside table. It is an excellent gift if you know where it will live; if not, it is a burden.

How to match your host's taste

If you do not know their home in detail, play it safe with neutrals and natural materials. Beige, sand and ivory sit well with almost any style, and cotton, glass or gold-toned metal clash with nothing. Colour accents (the dusty pink of the Siena Throw, the olive green of the Jamaica glass) work once you have seen what colours are in their living room.

  • You do not know their home: Marfil or Terra candle holder, Aveline Throw in beige, Noor Cushion.
  • You know they like touches of colour: Siena Throw in pink, Jamaica glass in green.
  • A kitchen and dining room that gets used: glasses, tumblers and cutlery.

If you want to understand why a cushion or a throw reads as an accent and not as a change, see the 60-30-10 rule: what you give is almost always that 10%. And if you are unsure between throws, the guide to throws for the sofa explains sizes and uses.

An example

Friends are moving into a flat with a light-coloured sofa in the living room and a gift budget of about €100. The Marfil Candle Holder (€41) sits on the coffee table with its beige finish, and the Aveline Throw (€59), 130 × 170 cm, folds over the arm of the sofa. Together they come to exactly €100, fit in a single bag and do not force anyone to move anything. For a colleague with €25, a pair of glasses is enough, the Blush and the Jamaica.

Limits

Neutrals land well, but they can also go unnoticed: if you know the host well, a colour accent will have more impact. Check on the product page what each piece includes before wrapping it, and if there are children or small pets at home, the Aura LED candles are the flameless option. Prices are those on the product page and may change.
